Richard Dana (USA)

Richard L. Dana is an artist, independent curator and arts administrator based in Washington, DC. As an artist, he has exhibited extensively in the United States and internationally, with over 18 solo exhibitions and participation in over 70 group exhibitions.

Selected exhibitions in the United States include: the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC); the Chrysler Museum (Norfolk VA); the Octagon House Museum (Washington, DC); the Drawing Center (New York, NY); Tribes Gallery (New York, NY); the International Monetary Fund (Washington, DC); Maryland Art Place (Baltimore, MD); the Washington Project for the Arts (Washington, DC); the Hotchkiss School (Lakeville, CT); and the Troyer, Fitzpatrick, Lassman Gallery (Washington, DC). Internationally Mr. Dana has exhibited in Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

As an independent curator, selected venues where Mr. Dana has presented exhibitions include: The World Bank (Washington, DC); The National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC); The Sumner School Museum (Washington, DC); The Art Center/South Florida (Miami, FL); Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA); Virginia Beach Center for the Arts (Virginia Beach, VA); the Westmoreland Arts Festival (Latrobe, PA); and the Hasan II Cultural Center (Asilah, Morocco).

The artist is self-taught. He has a BA in Russian Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MA in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Before dedicating his life to art, Mr. Dana worked as a Soviet Affairs expert and international economist in Washington, DC.
